“No Two Snowflakes are Alike”

It is snowing in Buck’s County this evening. Snow always reminds me of Snowflake Bentley. Have you heard of him? Wilson A. Bentley was a self-eduated farmer who lived in Vermont from 1865 to 1931. He is known for photographing snowflakes and working diligently to prove that “no two snowflakes are alike”. In 1931 he published his book “Snow Crystals” which contained more than 2400 snowflake images. Keep in mind, this was not the digital era of photography. He had to go to great lengths to photograph snowflakes. He stood in the cold of the barn on his family farm night after night to catch snowflakes. One ever so tiny false move and the snowflake would vanish and the opportunity to capture it would disappear. I cannot imagine his frustration, passion, and dedication.
